Abstract

To correlate and to highlight the importance of the colposcopy in pregnant patients, with abnormal cytology; a retrospective study was made in Metrosalud-Castilla of Medellín, from May, 1991 to June,1998. 127 patients' data were tabulated, the age average was 24, biopsy doesn't exist because 2 carcinomas were diagnosed on cytologies of low degree and 5 carcinomas on cytologies of high degree.

It is suggested, therefore, as a handling protocol for pregnant patients with abnormal cytology: colposcopy, taking biopsy at doubtful discoveries, bigger changes or evidence of invasive cancer; diagnostic conization for microinvasion suspicion. Treatment differed to the postpartum for CIN lesions; patients with cancer should be treated according to norms of the National Institute of Cancer.
