Abstract

An overview about the evolution of antenatal steroids administration in order to accelerate the lung maturity was done; it includes some topics about its origin, physiologic principles and use along the time. The main objective was to review the evidence of possible beneficial and harmful effects after multiple courses. Provided that concern exists, and some evidence about the possible risks of weekly courses, they should not be prescribed routinely for women at risk of preterm delivery.
