Abstract

The objective of this study was compare if the number and gestational age of previous abortions influenced the immunological diagnosis and the treatment of recurrently aborting patients. For this purpose, two groups of patients attending our Reproduction Program at The University of Antioquia were considered a) Those with only first-trimester recurrent spontaneous abortions and b) others with abortion occurring in different trimesters. Autoantibodies (antiphospholipid antibodies, lupus anticoagulant and antinuclear antibodies), alloimmunity (lack of mixed lymphocyte blocking factors) and the gestational outcome of the first pregnancy after joining to the program were compared. The history of two and three or more abortions was also analyzed. The immunological profile and the gestational outcome were similar in all groups.
