Abstract

 Congenital syphilis can be prevented and treated in uterus if the diagnosis is made early and treatment is made adequately. In the following, a review is made about the classification, diagnosis, treatment and follow up of the pregnant patient with syphilis. Emphasis is made on the effects of syphilis in pregnancy and fetus; a summary of some publications about the prevention of congenital syphilis is also made.
