La determinación de la madurez fetal se ha constituido en una de las primordiales metas de la Obstetricia moderna, ya que en algunas entidades como la diabetes, la eritroblastosis, la toxemia gravídica, es imprescindible en algúnas ocasiones terminar el embarazo por la gravedad de la sintomatología.
