Determinación de la edad gestacional por medición del diámetro biparietal

Las características socioeconómicas y raciales, además, de algunas entidades patológicas asociadas con el embarazo, pueden modificar la curva de crecimiento del D.B.P., razones que justifiquen que cada institución hospitalaria elabore una curva aplicable a su población.
Se elaboró una curva de crecimiento del D.B.P. basados en 840 determinaciones en 523 pacientes del Hospital Universitario Ramón González Valencia, con ciclos regulares de 26 a 30 días, sin patología materna o fetal concomitante con el embarazo, con fecha cierta de la última regla y sin la ingestión de anticonceptivos en los tres meses anteriores a la misma. Las determinaciones se hicieron entre las semanas 13 y 42 de la gestión.
El crecimiento semanal del D.B.P. fue de 3,38 mm entre las semanas 13 y 29, de 2.1 mm entre las semanas 30 y 37 y de sólo 0.64 mm entre las semanas 38 y 42. Nuestros hallazgos son similares a los de otros estudios, confirmándose que la velocidad de crecimiento del D.B.P. es más rápida en el segundo trimestre.
