El término de enfermedad pélvica inflamatoria (EPI) designa genericamente la infección de las estructuras anexiales del útero (salpingitis, pelviperitonitis, abscesos, etc.) y corresponde a lo que se ha llamado durante mucho tiempo con el término breve de Anexitis, (Galbis 10).
